Abstract
2588. Albrecht, M. Feb. 1, 1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Distributing.-A device whereby two shafts can be driven at a variable speed and with a torque varying inversely as the speed, from a prime mover running at constant speed, and which is particularly applicable to driving motor road vehicles, as being capable of use without a gear-box and differential gear, is arranged by making the prime mover, for instance, a petrol motor M, drive one of the members, for example the field E<d> of a dynamo. The dynamo is half the power of the prime mover when the relative speed of its two members is half that of the prime mover. The current from the dynamo drives a motor, the rotating member of which A<m> carries a sprocket driving one road wheel, the sprocket driving the other road wheel being carried by the dynamo armature A<d> ; the stationary member of the motor E<m> is rigidly fixed to the frame. The diagram shows direct current series machines governed respectively by resistances Rd, R<m> in parallel with the fields, but a shunt machine may be used, and reversal is effected by changing over the electromotor connexions. The Specification describes also a similar combination in which the two armatures A<d>, A<m> are rigidly connected.
