Abstract

2245. Cleiren, C. Oct. 10, 1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Motor road vehicles.-In an electric power-transmission system particularly applicable to motor road vehicles, one or more dynamos and an electromotor are so arranged that the velocity of the dynamo always equals that of the electromotor or presents a given ratio thereto. This is done by connecting members 3, 4, Fig. 1, in both dynamo and motor to the prime mover 2 and joining the remaining members 5, 6 to shafts 8, 9 coupled to the driven shaft 14. If the dynamo and motor are of the same power, an auxiliary dynamo 32, Fig. 4, may be mounted on the driving-shaft 19 to determine the direction of the current; this Figure shows an arrangement suitable for a motor road vehicle. As shown in Fig. 5, the two machines 40, 41 may be run at different speeds by driving them from the prime mover 31 through gearing 33, 34, 35, the only stipulation being that in the transmission to the driven shaft 45 the gears 43 should be of the same ratio as the gears 33, 34, 35, only arranged in the inverse order. Another arrangement for connecting the driving-shaft 51 to the driven shaft 53 is shown in Fig. 6, which is self explanatory. Instead of using two armatures and two field magnets, a single armature with a double winding and a single field magnet may be used. The Specification in the original form, as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a), comprises also an arrangement in which one member of one dynamo-electric machine is connected to the prime mover and the corresponding member of the other machine is connected to the driven shaft, the remaining members of the dynamo-electric machine being coupled together. This subject-matter does not appear in the Complete Specification as accepted.
