Dynamos and motors combined for transmitting power.-A power-transmission system comprises a prime mover, a dynamo with two revolving elements, and a motor, mounted on the driven shaft, supplied with the slip current from the dynamo. One element of the dynamo is connected to the driven shaft through a mechanical clutch, the members of which are disengaged and a band-brake simultaneously brought into action when the connexions to the motor are to be reversed to obtain backward running of the car. In the arrangement shown, the driving-shaft c carries the element a<1> of a dynamo A, and the shaft b the second element a, the windings of which are energized from an external source. During forward running, the shaft b is coupled to the driven shaft b<1> through a dog-clutch e, the shaft b<1> also carrying a motor D supplied with slip current from the dynamo A. For backward running, the members of the clutch e are disengaged, and a band-brake f is simultaneously applied to the member keyed to the shaft b by operating a foot-pedal e<2>. The connexions to the motor D are then reversed, and the shaft b' is driven in the opposite direction. A band-brake f' is applied to the shaft b<1> by operating a pedal f<2>. Specifications 23,978/05 and 7933/07 are referred to, each of which describes an electro-mechanical powertransmission system having a dynamo with two rotating elements, the dynamo supplying slip current to a motor mounted on the driven shaft.
