Abstract

206,276. Ahlm, C. E. F. Aug. 22, 1922. Dynamos and motors combined for transmitting power; electro-mechanical power transmission systems.-An electro-mechanical power transmission system comprises a dynamo-electric machine mounted on the driving shaft, a second dynamo-electric machine connected to the driven and driving shafts through epicyclic gearing, a brake for holding the planet carrier of the gearto obtain reversal,-a controller for the dynamo-electric machines whereby both run as motors to start the engine and alternately as generator and motor to obtain varying speeds, and means for shifting the brushes of the first dynamo-electric machine whereby the voltage of its armature may be decreased when the other machine is running as a generator and vice versa. The construction and arrangement of the dynamoelectric machines and the gearing is the same as that described in Specification 201,063. The brushes 90, of the first dynamo-electric machine are mounted upon a disc 91 rotatably mounted and operated by a lever adjacent to the steering- wheel.
