Abstract

2103. Reynolds, M. G. Jan. 28. Pressure-regulating valves.-Relates to an arrangement of valves for reducing the pressure in a gasmain from say 25 lb. per square inch to say 1 oz. The main valve 4 is actuated by a diaphragm 7 in opposition to a weighted lever 9. The pressure chamber 8 of the main diaphragm is connected by piping 12, 13 to the high-pressure pipe, and by piping 22 to the low-pressure pipe. In the pipe 12 there is inserted a pin valve 20, and a reducing- valve 15 which is set to reduce the pressure to say 8 oz. In the pipe 22 there is inserted a reducing- valve 25, set to reduce the pressure to that in the low-pressure pipe. The pin valve 20 obstructs the pipe 12, so that when gas is being taken from the low pressure main and the valve 25 is open the pressure falls somewhat from the valve 15 to the chamber 8 so that the valve 4 is open. When no gas is being taken, the valve 25 closes and the pressure in the chamber 8 rises to that at the valve 15 so that the valve 4 is closed tightly. The reducing-valves 15, 25 are of a usual type in which the valve is operated from the diaphragm by a lever. The diaphragm in the valve 15 is loaded by a spring, and that in the valve 25 by a weight.
