22,166. G r a h a m , J., Graham, D. A., and Graham, A. Dec. 6. Reducing-valves; safety-valves. -A reducing-valve for steam or other fluid is shown in Fig. 1. The partition B separates the high-pressure side A' from the low-pressure side A<2>, and is fitted with a main valve D actuated by a loosely-fitting piston. A flexible diaphragm G<1> is loaded with a spring H, a weight, or other suitable device, and its under surface is exposed to the low-pressure steam by means of a passage a<1>. Any over reduction of pressure causes the diaphragm to descend and open the regulating-valve F, which allows high-pressure steam to flow from the passage a on to the piston, and so open the main valve. Both valves may be made of the double beat type, and a modification in which the diaphragm is connected to the high-pressure side of the main valve is adapted for an escape valve, when the pressure is too high. In a modified reducing-valve the regulating-valve F, Fig. 3, is arranged in a separate casing W, and controls the passage of steam from the high-pressure passage a through the passage b into the piston chamber B. The Provisional Specification describes a device, for preventing chattering of the main valve, consisting of a raised ring fitted to the seat.
