Abstract

10,905. Seaton, A. E., and Ogden, J. E. L. May 12. Reducing-valves. - Relates to reducing-valves more particularly of the kind described in Specification No. 1747, A.D. 1893. In Fig. 1, the the piston D, which actuates the auxiliary valve B' of the equilibrium valve A, A', works in a chamber C<1> containing liquid and communicating at its upper side by-a passage c<2> with the valve outlet E, while its lower side communicates through a passage H with an air chamber G<2>. The air in this chamber is compressed by a hand or other pump M or by steam or other fluid led from the valve inlet by a pipe P. The passage H is controlled by a valve K. A gauge N measures the air pressure, while the glass gauge 0 measures the height of the liquid in the chamber G<2>. A spring may be placed above the valve A to prevent chattering, and a spring-loaded relief. valve may be placed in the side of the part G between which and the casing C is placed asbestos or other non-conductor of heat g. In a modification, the piston D is connected to the valve A and the valve inlet opens between them. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the auxiliary valve is operated by a diaphragm D<1> ; this diaphragm may be made to operate directly an equilibrium or a piston valve.
