Combustion Methods Of Internal-Combustion Engines
(AREA)
Abstract
28,776. Pape, H., and Josse, E. Dec. 17. Gas and like en gines.-To avoid pre-ignition, and at the same time to permit the use of high compression pressures, internalcombustion engines are worked on the following cycle. The exhaust valve is opened at the point 1 and closed at the point 2. A cool compressed charge is then admitted, and on the closing of the admission port at the point 3 the charge, mixed with a portion of the products of the previous explosion, is further compressed. Ignition takes place at, or just before the point 4. The exploded gases expand on the working stroke, and the cycle is then repeated. The compressed air and gas are fed from separate reservoirs through a mixing- valve to the cylinder.
