28,370. Hiorth, A. Dec. 12: Electric furnaces.-In an induction furnace for smelting, two or more annular channels are combined with one induction coil, allowing repairs without cessation of working. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement of channels A, A', in which one yoke C is employed and can be disconnected from the magnet core B and placed in either of the channels. In Fig. 3, two channels A, A<1> are shown with a common yoke D, the coil being arranged below them. According to another modification, the channels are arranged concentrically around the same yoke. Any desired number of channels may be employed. When one channel has been repaired a charge may be run into it from another, avoiding the insertion of an iron ring to start the heating.
