Electric furnaces.- Magnetic leakage in an induction furnace is diminished by building up the iron core in such a way that escaping flux has to pass through a number of the component plates. The core may be made in a number of parts 1 cf triangular or other cross-section, each consisting of plates parallel to its outer face. These parts are insulated from each other and may be shaped so that cooling-passages are formed between them. In other arrangements, insulated plates are wound spirally or concentrically. Mitre joints are employed at the corners of the core.
