27,510. Cole, F. J. Dec. 3. Superheaters, steam. -Relates to that class of superheater having the tubes fitted in the boiler smoke-tubes. The objects of the present invention are to reduce the number of joints and to facilitate the removal and renewal of parts. Separate vertical headers 70, 70<f> communicate above with the inlet and outlet compartments 62, 62, respectively, of a transverse header. The vertical headers are formed opposite each smoke-tube 67 with a lateral extension to which the superheater tubes 69 are connected. The method of making the connexion is shown in Fig. 7. The lateral extensions are formed at the front and back with a tube hole, which is recessed to receive suitable packing 70<m>, such as a copper ring. The tube ends are fitted with a collar 69<j>, which is drawn tight against the packing by glands 70<n> and bolts 70<o>. The ends of each upper pair of tubes 69 are bent, as shown. The upper compartment 62 of the transverse header is connected by a pipe 61 with the steam dome of the boiler, and lower compartment 62<f> with the cylinders by pipes 63.
