Abstract
17,688. Mellor, P. Aug. 7. Rolling. - Turbine drums, tubes, and other large hollow cylindrical bodies are rolled from hollow ingots in a mill having an adjustable external roll K and an internal roll A which can be moved longitudinally to permit of the insertion and removal of the work by a lift M. The roll A is extended at F and fitted with a bearing B operated by a rod E to draw the roll through the bearing C, but the bearing C may be movable as shown. One of the two housings R is movable on a bed J<1> to accommodate longer or shorter rolls, and the work is steadied during rolling by adjustable rollers D and moved to and from beneath the rolls by bars P having lugs to engage the table M.
