Abstract
10,894. Lorenz, C. May 9. Fluid governors.-A governor for a steam or other engine consists of a valve 18, Fig. 2, in the main steam-pipe. The valve 18 is carried by a piston 4 in a cylinder with which the by-pass 12 communicates. The valve 13 being closed, the spring 23 is first adjusted by means of a plate 20 so that the valve 18 remains closed against the boiler pressure. The valve 13 is then opened so that the engine runs at the required speed. Variations in the load on the engine cause corresponding movements of the valve 18, so that the engine is maintained at the desired speed.
