Abstract

10,701. Denston, H. F. May 7. Periscopes; telemeters; surveying-instruments.- In periscopic apparatus, the whole of the surrounding field is viewed by means of an annular glass block e<1> having an internal conical, spherical, or parabolic reflecting-surface e, and a concave base b. The image may be viewed directly through an eyepiece, or it may be magnified and projected by means of lenses upon a screen p or upon a photographic plate. An auxiliary system of lenses t, Fig. 11, which may be moved in and out of operation against the periphery of .the glass block, is employed to give an enlarged view of any particular portion of the field. A reflecting-prism, mounted so that it may be brought in front of any part of the glass block, allows objects to be seen which are above or below the normal field of view. The screen p or the photographic plate may be graduated to indicate the distances of the objects sighted.
