Abstract

10,195. Alexander, A. G. May 1. Spring wheels; felloes or rims.-Relates to vehicle wheels in which an annular series of ring-like springs is arranged between the hub or central portion of the wheel and the felloe, the springs being of an uneven number, and has for its principal object mounting the springs on rounded supports in order to permit free play ; a further object is to provide a shield or cover to exclude dirt, snow, &c. The springs 16, Figs. 1 and 3, taper between two diametrically opposite points, and are attached to the rims 11, 15 by clips 17, contacting parts of the rims and clips being rounded as shown in dotted lines. Each spring is independent and may contain a smaller spring held in the inner clip to assist under heavy strains, and two series of springs may be placed in staggered relation. Side plates are attached to the outer felloe which is of laminated wood. In the form shown in Figs. 7 and 8, the springs are secured by rounded cross-bars 25 each of which is held in place by two radial bolts 26, 29 passing at the sides of the spring. Packing is placed between the felloe and side plates.
