Bedsteads; mattresses.-In bedsteads formed in one with a mattress frame, the end frames are provided with corner blocks A having dovetail grooves into which fit the dovetails of boxes D. The wooden side bars G of the mattress rest in the boxes D, and are retained in place by bolts H or otherwise. Plates K secured to the lower ends of the boats can be turned so as to come beneath the blocks A and prevent the dovetailed parts from being disconnected. In order to prevent the side bars G from being bent, metal strips J are secured by screws &c. J<1> to the bars. The strips may be of flat, corrugated, or angled section, and may lie in recesses in the bars.
