Incandescent gas burners.-The tube or ring carrying an upright or inverted mantle or mantles, more especially the built-up mantles described in Specification No. 9038, A.D. 1905, is formed with a solid outer end and with side perforations. In one form, the mantle carrier comprises a central dome or tube closed at its outer end b<1>, Fig. 1, but with side apertures c, and the outer end of the mantle may sometimes be secured to a stem f, Fig. 2, having apertures f for the escape of the combustion products. Figs. 3 and 7 show two built-up mantles in which the gaseous mixture is supplied through apertures c to the outside of the mantle section d immediately above, and baffles e, Fig. 7, may also be provided. A mantle ring b, Figs. 4 and 9, and an outer closing-piece b<1> may be made of fire-clay, or metal, and connected together by a wire cage, or by bent wires, such as g. Fig. 4, or by slotted sheet metal, or by a cage built up of flat disks g', Fig. 9, separated by wire distancepieces g<2>, or the whole mantle carrier may be made of one piece of metal.
