Coke ovens.-Relates to ovens of the type in which gas canals are led under the heating-flues, and air flues are arranged below the coking-chambers and open into the flues at a higher level than the gas nozzles, the main object being to provide means for easily regulating the dampers or the like controlling the gas and air inlets to the heating-flues. Figs. 1 and 2 show coking-ovens b with beating-flues a, air flues c, gas canals d, and cooling-canals e. A slotf over the gas canal d is covered throughout its length with slabs g, each having an opening g<1> for the passage of gas. The slabs g are accessible through an opening h at the front of the oven, and may, by means of a suitable tool, be removed and slabs with different sized openings substituted. Air passes from the flue c through passages k, each leading to a branch a<2>, which is separated from the gas-supply branch a' by a wall p. Each of the passages k is provided with a slab l by means of which the areas of the openings may be varied. The slabs may be moved by means of a tool inserted through an opening in the front of the oven. In some cases, the slabs l may be formed with apertures x, and projections h to guide the slabs to their correct positions may be provided on the flue walls.
