To facilitate cooling, the packing is held in a casing a<1>, a<2> of U-section. The bush h also bears on a spherical ring k<1>. The packing may be compressed by a gland adjusted by hooked bolts engaging an undercut flange on the casing a<2>, or the casing may contain a spring for compressing the packing.
