Abstract
26,284. Ashley, T. Dec. 16. Annular-chamber type.-The cylinder a is provided with inlet ports band exhaust ports c. The e piston d is keyed to the shaft e and is provided with two abutments f, secured by studs and fitted with spring-pressed packing - pieces g. The fixed abutments h are also pressed by a spring, and are fitted with metal strips i with a spiral spring k between them to prevent leakage at the sides. A plug n in the cover m allows of the abutments being removed. To prevent leakage past the edges of the piston d, a plate o is pressed against it through the medium of pins p and plates q, s, r, the latter fitting over a screw-threaded portion t of the cover m. Two or more of these engines may be compounded, the exhaust from the first cylinder passing to the inlet of the second and so on.
