Cutting-out.-Apparatus for drafting women's skirts comprises front and back adjustable metal strips 8, 9 and 15, 16, a bottom adjustable strip 1 having a hinged connexion with the front edge strip 8, waist-size and hip-size strips 29, 31 rigidly secured to the upper front-edge strip, a pivoted waist-line strip 33, a hip link 39 adjustably connected to the waist-line strip and the hip-size and upper back-edge strips, and a link 36 pivoted to the waist-line strip 33 and adjustably connected with the waist-size strip 31. The front, back, and bottom parts consist of two superimposed strips connected by pins passing loosely through slots therein so as to be adjustable as regards their length. Clamping-screws 14, 28, &c. are used to fix the parts in their adjusted positions. When in use, the apparatus is placed on the skirt material and the gores ara marked out at the edges, the lines of stitching being indicated by the slots in the back and front strips. The parts of the apparatus are adjusted previously according to the measurements of the person being fitted. For instance, should the waist measure be twenty-two inches, the clamp screw 38 is adjusted to the number 22 on the waist-size scale 31, and the clamp screw 44 adjusted on the hip-size scale 29 to the scale number corresponding to the hip measurement. The clamp screw 40 is then moved backwards with the hip link 39 as far as it will go. To draft out a gore flared at the bottom, flexible wires 48 are fixed to the strips, the lower ends of the wires being extended or retracted by adjusting the ends 50 of the links 51 in the slots in the front and back strips, as shown.
