Abstract

25,799. Archer, J.. and Three Speed Gear Syndicate. Oct. 27, 1906. Brakes; driving - mechanism.-In a bicycle or other velocipede single-speed coaster hub with back-pedalling brake mechanism, use is made of the tilting pawl described in Specification No. 25,799, A.D. 1905, in connexion with variablespeed driving-gear. The invention is stated to be an improvement upon the inventions described in Specifications No. 21,679, A.D. 1900, and No. 22,232, A.D. 1901. The pawl f carried by the driving-sleeve e has teeth in different planes and disposed in opposite directions to engage teeth g within the hub and teeth i within a brake bush h. The arm f of the pawl projects through an opening in the inner periphery of a channel-shaped ring p, the outer periphery of which is cut to provide a spur or tongue to engage the hub frictionally. A pin k<1> upon the bush h operates a lever k to expand a brake band j. A ring q keeps the drag ring in place. According to the Provisional Specification, the drag ring may engage frictionally the planet cage and hub bush.
