Abstract

Spinning.-In a machine for filling bottles and for applying sealing-caps to the filled bottles, the bottle is raised on a treadle-operated rest until its mouth comes in contact with the cap, which is held by fingers n' provided at the conical lower end m<5> of a plunger e<2>. As the member d<2> continues to rise, spring-controlled pios m<1> force segments h<5>, which are controlled by weak springs k<2>, inwards, and cause knurls k<1> carried by the segments to press against the flange of the cap and bend it under the shoulder on the bottle. At the same time, the bottle is rotated with its rest by the plunger e<@2>, which is formed at its upper end with steep threads f which work in a nut f <3> as the plunger rises. The member d' and the segments h<5> are prevented from rotating by the pins m<1>.
