Abstract
9289. Adriance, B. April 22. Spinning.-Relates to apparatus for filling bottles or other receptacles with carbonated liquids, and closing them with sealing-caps. The lower end of the plunger i<2>, which closes the upper end of the filling-head i<1> while the bottle is being filled, is recessed and provided with a split ring j<2>, to receive and hold the sealing - cap, which is inserted in the end of the plunger before the bottle is raised to the filling-head. When the bottle is filled, the actuating-mechanism of the bottle-rest raises the bottle and plunger clear of the filling-head, as shown, the upward movement being controlled by a spring engaging the upper end of the plunger, and by an adjustable gauge or stop, which is also controlled by a spring. The plunger is surrounded by a pulley, which carries a spindle s<5> having a spring arm u<3> provided with a spinning-knurl u<4>, the pulley being driven by a belt from the main driving-shaft. During the upward movement of the bottle and plunger, a cone fixed to the bearing-bracket of the plunger engages the arm t<1> on the spindle 8<5>, and moves the knurl u<4> into position to turn in the flange of the sealing cap under the shoulder of the bottle neck.
