Abstract

21,665. Longuemare, A. A. Oct. 24. Gas or explosive-vapour engines, carburetting in. Additional air is admitted to the carburettor by an annular spring-loaded valve surrounding the airinlet nozzle, the motion of the valve being limited by a suitable stop. The spraying-nozzle j is surrounded by the double conical choke-tube a, the lower portion of which forms the seat of the annular valve b, which slides with a slight amount of friction in the casing of the carburettor. The base of the tube a, which has holes i for the passage of air admitted by holes o in the casing, is: provided with a sleeve m which fits over the tube n, The valve b. is reduced in diameter at its middle part to permit of its being actuated by an arm e on the spindle f working in the screwed plug p. The valve, which is loaded by a weak spring c, may be kept closed, or fully open, or may be given various. lengths of stroke by suitably adjusting the arm e. This additional air does not produce any effect on the spraying-nozzle, but simply weakens the mixture.
