Abstract

21,441. Baret, M. Oct. 21. Envelopes. - An envelope has holes 6, Figs. 1 and 2, formed in the side and bottom flaps, and a hole 9 just below a strengthening-tongue 8 in the top flap. To fasten the envelope, both ends of a tape 13 secured by an eyelet 12 to the envelope are passed through the holes of the side and bottom flaps, and then one end is passed through the hole 9, while the other end passes through the groove 7, and they are tied together over the tongue 8, thus securing the flaps. In modifications, the shape of the side or bottom flaps is varied, the tape is fastened to a side flap instead of to the front of the envelope, the groove 7 is replaced by a small slot just above the tongue, or the top flap is bent back just above the hole 9 and after the tape has been tied is bent forward and stuck down over the tape. The flaps may also be gummed. The envelope is convenient for enclosing samples, circulars, &c.
