Abstract

18,890. Crane, J. A. Sept. 19. Fenders. - In a method of c o nnecting the vertical tubes or fillings of fenders and the like to the top rail, a strip or bar A, to form a concealed seating for the vertical tubes D to butt against, is secured in the top rail B, by means of saddles C, which pass over the connecting screws d', the whole being secured by nuts E ; or the bar A may be held in position by means of screws J, at intervals, with or without nuts H. The bar A may be of sufficient depth to bear against the crown of the top rail B while leaving the necessary seating space at the bottom ; or it may be the full depth of the rail and recessed for the same purpose. The bar A, or an upturned end thereof, is drilled to receive the screw by which the rail is attached to the end pillar. The tube B may be so shaped on each side as to hold the bar A rigid.
