12,082. roster, J. June 9. Brakes.-In track brakes for tramcars and similar vehicles, the brake shoes K, Fig. 3, as they become worn, are adjusted automatically to a constant distance from the rails. For this purpose the crossshaft H, which carries the levers G for depressing the shoes, is mounted in bearings R arranged to slide vertically in guides. The bearings are supported by screws S, and each screw is turned by a ratchet-wheel, ratchet lever T, and link U, Fig. 2, connected with the brake rod E, which is operated in the usual manner to apply the brake.
