6007. Wallace, R. March 22. Cutting and slicing turnips.-In apparatus for slicing turnips by pressing them through boxes with inclined sides formed of kuives placed louverwise, two knife boxes are employed, one in advance of the other, and also a hand-lever centred on the cutter stand carrying blocks co-operating with the knife boxes. The knife boxes A, B are mounted on the stand C, and the blocks H, J are attached to the arm F, which is pivoted at G and provided with a counterpoise K. Owing to the position of the blocks H, J, the turnips in the box A are nearly cut through before the block J comes into action. In place of the two boxes A, B, a single long box may be used, with a transverse partition forming a support for the knives.
