2103. Ihlee, F. C. Feb. 2. Eccentrics.-Ball or roller bearings, having continuous races, are used in eccentrics for driving high-speed short stroke engines for motor road vehicles, ships, &c. The driving-shaft b is driven by one or more eccentrics arranged as shown in Figs. 1 and 2; a strap c, connected to the engine piston, works over a sheave a carried by or formed on the driving-shaft. Between the strap and sheave is mounted a pair of rings g<1>, f<1> which form the ball race, the top race being held in position by a ring m, and the bottom race f<1> by conical-headed bolts k<1>, k<2>, k<3>, Fig. 2.
