173. Bruce, A. Jan. 4. Water-waste preventers, siphon-discharge. Relates to flushing-cisterns for automatically and intermittently flushing water closets or urinals, by means of a siphon in which air is locked in the shorter leg and is discharged to start the flush through an air-outlet valve, operated by a float and suitable connexions. Two constructions of siphon are described. In Fig. 1, the shorter leg d is provided with a ring g which dips into a trough e formed on the outside of the conical upper end of the longer leg f. A seal is thus formed for entrapping the air, which is released periodically through a valve h, preferably of the disk type, which is operated by a float j sliding on a central guide-rod l. In the second form, the siphon consists of a pipe having a double bend forming the air-lock to which the valve h is connected.
