23,486. Schurig, P., and Stein, G. Dec. 22. Water-waste preventers, siphon-discharge. The stand-pipe c, mounted in a well b, is surmounted by a bell c, inside which is fixed an annular float d. When the bell is pulled down by the chains z, water is forced over the crown of the siphon, and the flush started. The crown of the bell e is connected by a flexible pipe h to a pipe i attached to a float l working in a compartment m, which fills slowly through perforations from the main cistern. When the main siphon is started, therefore, the float l descends very slowly, with the result that the pipe i is uncovered, and air admitted to break the flush, when a certain difference between the water levels in the cistern and the well l has been set up. The quantity of the flush is therefore independent of the original water level in the cistern.
