Abstract

Impeller blades.-The blades S of turbines or pumps are formed so that along a part at least of the blade the lines of intersection of the blade with cylinders concentric with the rotor axis are helices cf constant pitch, and that at least in a part of the said helices the ratio of the axial component (cm<1>) of the meridian entrance velocity to that (cm<2>) of the discharge velocity is substantially equal to the ratio of the relative entrance velocity to the relative outlet velocity. Instead of screwshaped blades, blades having flat surfaces may be used. The blades may be mounted in the rotor so that their angularity may be adjusted.
