29,257. Taylor, P. Dec. 31. Winding - machines.-The object is to drive the spindles at a gradually decreasing speed as the diameter of the bobbins increases owing to the winding of the yarn thereon. Each spindle B is driven through a pair of cone drums C, H, - of which the drum H is driven from the tin roller F, and the strap M is traversed along the drums as the winding proceeds. For the purpose of traversing the strap M in the manner desired, the strap fork is mounted to slide on rods n and is operated by a lever N which carries a loosely sliding weight U and is connected with a slide Q carrying a feeler roller S which presses against the yarn being wound. At the commencement of the winding operation, the parts occupy the positions shown in the right-hand portion of Fig. 1, and, as the feeler roller S is moved owing to the increasing diameter of the bobbin, the slotted end of the lever N is gradually raised so as to move the strap M along the cone pulleys until, when the bobbin is full and the strap M has reached the upper end of the cone drum C, the strap is quickly transferred to the loose pulley owing to the sliding of the weight U on its arm of the lever N. For doffing purposes &c., the bobbin is raised from its driving-disc W by a lever X.
