Winding - machines.- The yarn is pressed upon the cop chase by a conical roller G, the axis of which does not pass through the axis of the cop or bobbin. The roller is mounted adjustably between arms carried by a balanced slide H, and is pressed upwards as the cop increases in length. The thread is guided on to the cop by a guide f carried by a traversing-support. The guide is held by friction only on the stem d of its support, and after each reciprocation it is met by an arm t<1> extending from the slide H, so that, as the latter rises with the winding on of each layer of yarn, the limits of the traverse of the guide f are correspondingly raised. The rod T on which the slide H travels is pivoted at B, and at the lower end is connected to a lever or handle S provided with notches e' and e for engaging with the part u of the frame, according as it is desired that the roller G shall be in or out of action ; g is a bracket for supporting the upper end of the bobbin &c.
