Abstract

26,818. Stoney, T. B. Dec. 9. Tide mills.-The shallow reservoir A is filled at high tide, and at low tide the water is allowed to pass through the pipes I, G to drive the turbine F, which is geared to a centrifugal pump in the reservoir and to a dynamo. When the turbine is started, the pipe I is closed and the pump delivers water through the pipe E to the " cistern " B, the floor of which is at the high-water level ; the water then falls through the pipe G to the turbine. The electricity produced at night &c. is stored in accumulators.
