Tyres, elastic other than pneumatic; felloes or rims.-Tyres for the wheels of motor cars and other vehicles are constructed of annular rings of india-rubber tapering towards their outer periphery, and secured by bolts and nuts to a projecting rib fastened to the rim. Fig. 1 shows a tyre composed of four of these rings A, A<1>, A<2>, A<3> secured to a feather on the rim B. Between adjacent rings and on the outside are placed metallic rings, and the whole tyre is kept together by bolts and nuts D passing transversely through the rings. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the tops of the feather and separating-rings are beaded at E, E<1> to aid in preventing the tyre from coming apart. The india-rubber rings may also be corrugated as shown in plan in Fig. 4.
