8565. Alley, S. E. April 14. Felloes or rims; tyres, non-elastic.- Relates to means for compensating for the expansion of the metal tyre by stretching, or for the shrinkage of the wooden felloe. The flat rim B with radial flange C is fitted over the central portion A of the wheel. The tyre E is shrunk on the wooden felloe D, of which the inner edges d are bevelled. Wedge - rings F, having corresponding bevelled faces, are drawn inwards by screwing up the nuts of bolts G, passed alternately from each side through the central flange C, and by inclined-plane action radially force the wooden felloe D against the tyre E. The bolts G may screw into the central flange C, or the rings F may be drawn inwards simultaneously by bolts G passing through both rings F and the central flange. In a modification, Fig. 5, a single ring F is drawn inwards by bolts G passing through a flange H.
