A rubber washer g cut from a tubular length fits round the taper exterior of the edge, and is pressed down on to the rim f by a cover a. The edge c of the cover may be cylindrical or conical, and, to ensure good locking engagement with the neck of the jar, corrugations may be made in the cover to give it a certain amount of elasticity in a radial sense so as to grip the neck of the jar.
