Abstract

2080. Rhodes, B. Jan. 27. Sliding valves; actuating valves.-The sluice valve, shown in Fig. 1, is constructed of two parts C connected by links A to the screw spindle B, so that, in closing, the parts C are forced apart against their seats, and in opening are drawn inwards. The seats, as shown, may be raised from the casing, or flush therewith. In the latter case, a spring D is interposed between the parts C to maintain the valve parts against their seats, and prevent access of dirt to the faces. In a modification, the valve is actuated by a worm and toothed quadrant, the valve being attached to the quadrant by links.
