Abstract

190,375. Parker, J. W. Jan. 3, 1922. Ball bearings.-In a ball bearing in which the lines from the centre of a ball to the two points of contact of a groove are at different angles to the central plane of the bearing, the angles for the inner raceway are equal to the opposite angles for the outer raceway. The Figure shows a bearing in which the angles are 20‹ and 24‹. The outer raceway, which is in two parts, 3, 7, is of the spherical type and after the balls have been assembled in the cage 5, between the races, the whole is inserted sidewise through a slot 8 ,in the casing 1 and then rotated into its working position. The groove in the inner raceway is preferably of curved form and the space 17 serves as a passage for lubricant. Two or more rows of balls may be used, the races being divided at the bottom of each groove.
