Abstract
22,276. Wainwright, H. S. Oct. 15 Blast apparatus and draught-inducer.-Consists in improvements in draught-producing and sparkarresting apparatus for locomotive engines. To the upper end and separate from the blast pipe a, a wall b is fitted provided with slots on openings c arranged horizontally as shown. The wall b is also provided with a steam-blower ring f, cast in one with it and consisting of a groove to which steam is admitted, the steam escaping through the small outlet holes g. The spark-arrester w is fitted between the blast pipe and the cone k. Due to the action of the steam escaping from the holes g, gases from the fire - tubes are induced to pass through the slots c, entry of cinders being prevented. Various constructions of blast pipes and spark-arresters may be employed, and features described in Specifications Nos. 14,262 and 21,554, A.D. 1901, and Nos. 583, 584, 2710, and 2710A, A.D. 1902, [Abridgment Class Chimneys &c.], may be embodied.
