Abstract

241,602. Partridge, H. E., Thompson, W. J., and Thompson (Wolverhampton), Ltd., J. May 22, 1924. D u s t collectors; chimneys and flues.- Apparatus for separating solid matters from flue gases comprises an expansion chamber into one end of which a pipe conveying the flue gas projects only a short distance so that oppositely flowing streams of gas are set up in contact with one another. The Figure shows the base of a chimney fitted with an inlet pipe c connected to a pipe d leading from a steam boiler installation &c. The inlet pipe delivers into a cylindrical chamber e in which some dust &c. is deposited; the gas flows upinto a short cylinder f closed at the top, by which it is reversed, depositing its finer particles in an outer chamber a and escaping to the stack. The dust in the chambers a, e may be deposited in a catch pit &c. h by withdrawing the damper i. In a modification, the cylinders c, e, f may be arranged horizontally in a horizontal flue, the chamber e being formed with a lateral outlet into a catch pit.
