Abstract

Air-compressing engines; central-valve engines.- Compressed air and other fluids at a very high pressure are reduced to a working pressure economically by making them compress air up to the working pressure during their expansion. The invention also comprises a single-acting compound engine for using the reduced-pressure fluid. In the compressor, the high-pressure fluid enters a measuring chamber 4 by a pipe 3 and valve 1, and forces the piston 5 and the pistons 8, which are attached to it, to the left. Air enters the cylinders 6, 7 through the annular valves 11, 12, and, at the end of the stroke, the spindle 29 of the valve 10 comes in contact with the stop 30 and the high-pressure fluid flows past the valve to the left-hand sides of the pistons 8, 9. The expanded fluid and compressed air from the cylinders 6, 7 are expelled through a pipe 37 to the low-pressure reservoir, and the heat generated by the compression is absorbed by the expansion. The valve 1 is worked by a tappet on the prolongation 22 of the valve 10, which is closed by fluid pressure. The compound motor is similar in construction to the compressor, and comprises a cylinder 4 and only one larger cylinder 6, which is open to the atmosphere, at its right-hand end. The annular exhaust valve is worked by the piston 8.
