18,785. Crosta, L. W. Sept. 1. Spigot - andsocket joints for earthenware and sanitary pipes. The socket end n is made larger than the spigot end o, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, so as to admit cement afterwards to make the joint. In order to obtain a true invert, a ring r, r<1>, made of bituminous composition or cement, is cast in the socket n after the pipe is made. At one face, the inside of the ring r is eccentric with regard to the outside of the ring, while at the other face, the inside is concentric with the outside. The thickest part r is at the bottom, so that, when the spigot end o is being inserted, it slides up the sloping portion r, and forms a true invert against the shoulders of the socket.
