Spigot-and-socket joints.-Around the spigot end of an (arthenware or like pipe,- a ring c of hard composition is formed, and a collar d of similar composition is formed around the spigot clear of the top of the socket. In this collar, two recesses are formed, through which cement j is poured. Before jointing, a small quantity of mastic or other plastic material g is placed in the bottom of the socket, and the space between the collar and the top of the socket is filled with similar material h, leaving free only the jointing-holes through which liquid cement is poured. The ring c and collar d may be formed during the construction of the pipe.
