Abstract

7572. Peart, G. April 1. Bats.-A cricket bat is constructed to diminish the jar to the batsman when striking the ball. The wooden face of the blade a, Fig. 2, is cut away to receive a tapered facing b of india-rubber &c. The facing may be formed with flanged sides to envelope the sides and bottom of the bat. The facing is preferably glued to the blade, and may be backed with a lining of light fabric to receive the glue The piece b is formed with a tongue c, which is bound under the handle-binding. A layer of cork g may be placed between the piece b and the bat a. The face-piece may be painted or enamelled as desired, and is formed by moulding or by cutting from sheet rubber.
