Starting.-To facilitate the starting of engines that cut off at less than half -stroke, an additional valve I is provided which admits steam through ports N after the main valve C has closed the ports B. The valve I is always working, but the ports N are closed except at starting by the sliding valve seat L with ports M in it, which are brought into line with the ports N by mechanism 0, P, Q, or by some other form of valve.
