1521. Gallo, A. Jan. 21. Match boxes.-The body of a box for matches and other articles is formed from a blank of paper, cardboard, sheet metal, or other material which is cut and scored as shown in Fig. 2. To form the box, the side flaps b are turned up at right-angles to the bottom B, and the part A, which serves as an inner partition or guide for the lid, is folded over, and the flaps a thereon are caused to engage in the recesses i in the flaps b, and are folded down on the outside of the flaps b. The part C, which forms the top side of the box and has an aperture F, is then folded over to rest on the top of the sides b, and the flaps c are folded down on the outside of the flaps a. The aperture F is covered by a lid D, Fig. 4, which slides between the parts A, C, the lid having a projection to prevent withdrawal. The lid may have a tongue d which may be connected with the tongue l on the part A by an elastic ring, so that, when the lid is withdrawn, the tongue is automatically turned at right-angles to the lid, as shown in Fig. 6, to hold the lid in position, the lid being again automatically closed when the tongue is inclined. The lid may have a slot f through which a sealing-label passes, the label being cut by the inclined edge of the slit on withdrawing the lid.
