Abstract
19,224. Dodd, W. S. Dec. 3, A.D. 1901, [date applied for under Patents Act, A.D. 1901]. Sleepers; rails, securing to sleepers; rail joints. -Sleepers of inverted trough or box-like form are made by bending down the ends and sides of the blank shown in Fig. 1, and by the addition of the bottom plate 23, if desired. Cross plates or braces 14 may be inserted in the sleeper. The parts are secured together by passing the lugs 3, 15, 16, 24, 25, through the holes shown and turning them over. The edges of the plate blank may be plain or thickened as at 22. The rail may be held on one side by a tongue 5 pressed out of the top of the sleeper and on the other side by a clamp. The clamp 8 may have a square slotted shank 9 secured by a wedge passed through the hole 12 in the side of the sleeper, and it may have a stepped head 27 to take over the flange and into notches therein at the rail joints. Or the [-shaped clamp 19 secured by a. wedge 20 may be used.
